About JMACTS

The result of the extensive community development programmes over two decades of Sri Vidya Trust Devipuram, Sabbavarm mandal, Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. SVT was further assisted by OXFAM India Trust and implementation support from Vikasadarshini-Hyderabad in institutionalization of its thrift and credit groups under the cooperative law. The objective integrating small thrift and credit groups into a cooperative was to create an institutional framework which enables poor people to save regularly with and borrow at times of need for production, asset formation and for general purposes at reasonable terms and conditions and thereby improve their economic and social standards.

The first generation initiatives in self help movement of Andhra Pradesh to form village level men and women in thrift and credit activity and to federate them initially and finally integrate them into a legal umbrella/institution. Then the thrift and credit activity was named as JAGRUTHI MUTUALLY AIDED CO-OPERATIVE THRIFT SOCIETY LIMITED (JMACTS)., and was registered under 1995 Andhra Pradesh co-operative act. JMACTS is the first co-operative registered society under this act in Visakhapatnam district and the registration number is AMC/VSP/95/1.

From 1995 onwards JMACTS- a new generation microfinance institution promoted with people to extend savings and credit financial services to financially marginalized members in a courteous, efficient, and transparent manner. These marginalized members who seek to better their lot in life, if only they could have access to saving, credit and financial services, while receiving professional business advice and training for success. Thus, as a micro credit service provider, JMACTS specializes in providing credit and other financial services to such members. They could be engaged in any form of informal business, petty trading or artisan making enterprises that require modest financial assistance to break loose from the grips of poverty. Thus JMACTS was born with the belief of when these members have access to credit services, to enhance business growth, they become better and able to take care of their family needs. It believes Bill Gates statement while people need banking, they may not need banks.

JMACTS works on three inter-linked principles to scale its operation. This includes for-profit methodology to access capital, best practices to speed growth and technology to minimize the operational and management costs. JMACTS blends this rigorous business approach with a strong social commitment that includes ensuring that its customers continue to hold a significant stake in JMACTS activities.

Now JMACTS focused on marginalized members who seek to better their lot in life, if only they could have access to credit and financial services, while receiving professional business advice and training for success. Thus, as a micro credit service provider, JMACTS specializes in providing credit and other financial services to such individual members . They could be engaged in any form of informal business, petty trading or artisan making enterprises that require financial assistance to tap their full potential and grow. Thus, JMACTS was born with the belief of when these members have access to credit services, to enhance business growth, they become better and able to take care of their family needs.
